Details on this package are located in Section 6.30.2, “Contents of Bash.”
The Bash package contains the Bourne-Again SHell.
Apply fixes for several bugs discovered since the initial release of Bash-3.2:
patch -Np1 -i ../bash-3.2-fixes-8.patch
Prepare Bash for compilation:
./configure --prefix=/tools --without-bash-malloc \ ac_cv_func_working_mktime=yes
The meaning of the configure options:
--without-bash-malloc
This option turns off the use of Bash's memory allocation
(malloc
) function which is
known to cause segmentation faults. By turning this option
off, Bash will use the malloc
functions from Glibc which are more stable.
ac_cv_func_working_mktime=yes
This parameter bypasses the search for mktime in configure and uses the version in glibc. The is necessary due to a change in gcc that has not been incorporated into this package yet.
Compile the package:
make
Compilation is now complete. As discussed earlier, running the test suite is not mandatory for the temporary tools here in this chapter. To run the Bash test suite anyway, issue the following command:
make tests
Install the package:
make install
Make a link for the programs that use sh for a shell:
ln -vs bash /tools/bin/sh
